ECDIS Setup

Navigational officer performs this procedure

  1. Cross-check primary position fixing system setup with a manual position input

  2. Ensure ECDIS and chart data updated

  3. Check input sources connected and data correct

  4. Ensure all relevant chart information layers loaded

  5. Set ECDIS safety settings

    1. Safety depth: Draft + squat
    2. Safety contour: Draft + squat + UKC policy - height of tide
    3. Shallow contour: Next contour shallower than Safety Contour
    4. Deep contour: Twice vessel's draft

  6. Set ECDIS alarm settings

    1. Route alarms/Cross track error
    2. Safety frame/Anti-grounding cone

  7. Ensure correct configuration of

    1. System time
    2. Navigation tools
    3. System units
    4. Area alerts
    5. Docking mode
    6. Targets
    7. Preferred radar selected
    8. Vessel data setup
    9. Audible alarm working
    10. ENC settings
    11. Display settings
    12. Correct route loaded
    13. Correct waypoint and route monitoring information displayed

  8. Ensure setup is replicated on all ECDIS units
